Hospital pump replacement or repair? It depends on the situation and availability of components. In the example below, a Grundfos TPD range pump unit fitted the bill and was the logical choice.

Two days ago we received a phone call from one of our hospital clients. They had a failing hot water pump and asked us to remove it and quote for a repair and replacement option. The hospital had a contingency plan in place so the repair was not time critical and could be carried out on standard service.

We attended site and removed the pump and when back in our workshop we found it was in a very poor condition. The pump required extensive mechanical repair work & spares that were on a long lead time. It was also obsolete.

The following day we received a phone call that the contingency plan had failed. The pump repair was now time critical as the hospital now had no hot water supply in 3 wards.

We received the call at around 10.30am and were told how important it was for the hot water to be up and running as fast as possible. Making the decision that the fastest possible option would be to supply the hospital a replacement pump, we compared pump curves and selected the closest available alternative which happened to be a Grundfos unit as the pump replacement. Our site team then collected this from the manufacturer and immediately headed over to the hospital.

Once on site, we installed and commissioned the new pump leaving the hot water system back up and running. All this within 3 hours of the initial phone call.
