Here’s our MD Julian Webb congratulating Barrie Harper who has recently been promoted to Workshop Team Leader.
Barrie has been with Webb-Elec for 17 years and in that time has gained a wealth of knowledge in the repair of all types of electric motors including DC, 3 and single phase AC motors, slipring motors and for those who remember them he has even worked in his youth on the now obsolete AC commutator variable speed motors! In addition he has repaired more pumps than he can remember along with gearmotors & fans and has worked on the majority of our customers’ sites with repairs and re-installations.
His favourite items to repair are large industrial DC motors where he can really get stuck into them! His go-to tool is our Baker tester unit that enables him to check the insulation of all the field, interpole and armature windings not only for correct resistance and insulation to earth but also for insulation between each individual turn of wire to detect any shorts. This surge testing to detect shorted turns is something that no other standard electrical tester can do and is invaluable to confirm the motor will run correctly when placed under full load conditions.
Barrie is a very capable engineer and is a real stickler for quality. He liaises with our Assistant Operations Co-ordinator with all internal workshop issues including health & safety, efficient working and tooling requirements. He also oversees our shop floor apprentices ensuring they obtain the right tuition and experience in all areas of our work. Suffice it to say that you are in safe hands when our workshop team leader Barrie is involved with your repair.
