Our site team recently carried out dynamic fan balancing & laser alignment to a large centrifugal fan unit for a local client.
Sited on the flat roof of a university departmental building, we had to work around the needs of the client as the work required a full roof shutdown with out-of-hours working. Once on site with all our equipment, our site team set about repairing the fan unit with the installation of a new drive motor, pulleys and fan shaft support bearings. These were all changed out for new and once completed, we used or CEMB Hofmann AL10 laser shaft alignment equipment to ensure the pulleys were correctly aligned. This is a very important procedure as even a small misalignment can lead to accelerated belt wear and damage to the system’s support bearings resulting in premature failure.
Once the laser alignment procedure was completed, our site team then set about dynamically balancing the fan impeller. We again turned to our CEMB Hofmann equipment to complete the task; this time opting for the N330 handportable vibration and balancing unit. This was set up as seen in the photograph and within a couple of hours the fan impeller was running sweetly. Imbalance in a system such as this is very important to remove as it causes excessive noise, severe damage and premature failure of the support bearings & also damage and eventual failure of the impeller itself.
Following a full test run of the fan unit, our team then signed off the job and booked out at the site office ensuring the area was left clean, tidy and safe. Another dynamic fan balancing & laser alignment job well done and a very satisfied customer.
