Here are 2 new Disc Pack couplings rated at 4000Nm each ready for delivery to the customer.

This is part of a project in a brick works where a large obsolete gearmotor will be replaced with a new SEW Eurodrive gear brake motor for a Hoist Drive in the pallet stores of one of our manufacturing customers.

This project is similar to the completed one in the images below where we replaced a pair of obsolete SSB gearmotors with a single Nord gear brake motor for a Setter Defacer machine in a brick manufacturer. This machine picks up a column of bricks and turns them 180 degrees for the defacing process.

The new Nord gearmotor is a helical bevel design with a twin output shaft which is much more efficient than a helical worm style unit. To enable this to run both sides of the machine, 2 new drive shafts were manufactured and connected to the gearbox output shafts by means of 2 Disc Pack couplings. We selected this particular coupling design due to its reliable and accurate transmission of mechanical power and minimum maintenance requirements. These couplings are well suited for working in poor environmental conditions and the well balanced, all-steel construction enables transmission of high torques at high shaft speeds if required.

The couplings on the Defacer project were a little smaller than the ones in the main image, being rated at 1400Nm. The new project for the Hoist Drive has a larger gearmotor with a larger output torque capacity, hence the selection of the 4000Nm units.
