We recently carried out a 200kw Siemens refinery fan repair for one of our metal processing customers.
This unit came into us with a reported vibration problem and the requirement for a fast turnaround. We collected the unit on a dedicated vehicle and once offloaded into our workshop the hard work began. The motor was dismantled & overhauled with replacement bearings and seals fitted. The copper windings were fully Baker tested to check the integrity of both the slot & inter-turn winding insulation and then re-impregnated with insulating varnish. The rotor was tested for any possible damaged bars and also dynamically balanced.
While this was going on, the fan was dismantled and the shaft and support housings checked for wear and damage. New main fan shaft support bearings were supplied and fitted and the impeller cleaned and checked for any damage, cracks or distortion. The impeller and shaft were then set up on our CEMB Hofmann machine and dynamically balanced and once balanced, the whole fan unit was rebuilt & painted. On assembly, the motor and fan shaft were laser aligned and the drive coupling fitted. Laser alignment is critical to ensure no run-out between the motor & fan shaft as even a small amount could cause vibration issues & wear to the coupling and bearings.
On final test we made use of our CEMB Hofmann N330 portable vibration monitoring and dynamic balancing equipment to confirm the vibration levels were now within acceptable limits and that the complete rotating assembly was dynamically balanced.
The unit was then loaded back onto our vehicle and delivered to the customer.
This refinery fan repair was all carried out and returned to site within the customer’s required time frame who was very pleased with our service.
